It must be noted, at that outset, that Malta does NOT offer a conventional direct Citizenship By Investment program. Instead, the country offers Naturalisation for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment.
This protocol enables qualifying applicants to naturalize in Malta by making a non-refundable government contribution of:
- €600,000: To obtain Maltese citizenship by investment after 36 months (3 years), OR;
- €750,000: To obtain Maltese citizenship by investment after 12 months (1 year).
In addition, you will have to either:
A) Buy a residential property worth at least €700,000 in Malta, which must be held for a minimum of five years, OR;
B) Lease a residence with a rental value of €16,000 annually, for a period of 5 years.
Important: If you opt to buy a property, you will not be allowed to sublet or sell this property during these five years. And if you opt to rent a property, you will not be allowed to sublet it either.
And on top of the above, you will have to donate an amount of €10,000 to an organization approved by the Community Malta Agency.
